I am a mechanical engineer, engineering lecturer and industry practitioner with experience spanning rotating equipment, materials engineering, manufacturing and mechanical design. My professional background combines approximately six years of industrial engineering experience with four years university-level teaching at IIE MSA.
I began lecturing in Mechanical Engineering in 2023. My teaching responsibilities have included materials science, machine design and manufacturing, with an emphasis on helping students develop both a sound theoretical foundation and the ability to apply engineering principles to practical problems.
My approach to engineering education is informed by the connection between theory and practice. Through design projects, practical activities, assessments and classroom discussion, I aim to help students develop their technical understanding, engineering judgement and confidence in approaching unfamiliar problems.
Alongside my teaching, I have contributed to assessment development, practical activities, curriculum refinement and student design-project supervision. These responsibilities have encouraged me to think critically about how learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessment activities can be aligned to support student learning.
This portfolio documents my development as an engineering educator. It brings together examples of my teaching practice, reflections on my experiences, feedback and areas for improvement, and goals for my continued professional development.
Materials science and engineering materials
Mechanical and machine design
Manufacturing techniques
Engineering design projects and practical problem-solving
My industrial experience includes gas and steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, component repair and remanufacturing, reverse engineering, materials selection and engineering investigations. My postgraduate research examined laser cladding of titanium alloys and resulted in a peer-reviewed publication.
I continue to develop my expertise in welding engineering and advanced manufacturing, with research interests that include thermal modelling of welding and metal additive manufacturing.
